The Soles de Oro series printed by De La Rue for the Banco Central de Reserva del Perú in the late 1950s coincided with a period of relative monetary stability under the Prado administration — unusual for Peru at the time, and one reason these notes entered circulation in volume rather than being immediately overwhelmed by inflation-driven replacements. The 1956–1959 date range on P#78 reflects a multi-year printing run rather than a single issue date, with individual notes bearing specific years within that window.

De La Rue's intaglio work on this series is competent but not among their more ambitious commissions of the period.
