Additional information

Mongolia's early post-communist commemorative program relied heavily on foreign minting contracts, and this piece was produced as the country navigated its abrupt transition from a Soviet satellite to an independent market economy — the 1992 constitution having only just been adopted that same year. The Lunar series issues of this period were largely export commodities aimed at collector markets in East Asia and the West, generating hard currency during a period when the Mongolian economy had essentially collapsed.

KM#86 is well-documented and straightforward within the series, with no notable die varieties on record.
