Reverse description The central vignette presents a detailed intaglio rendering of the Monument to the Founding of the Korean Workers' Party in Pyongyang, its three stylized columns — bearing a hammer, sickle, and calligraphy brush — rising above a broad podium surrounded by trees. A guilloche underprint in pale blue and pink fills the background, with the state emblem cartouche at the left margin. The numeral '50' appears at lower left and upper right, with the Korean denomination '오십원' at lower right.

The "Independence" series commemorative notes were issued by the DPRK in 2018 to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state. Unlike circulating currency, these were produced explicitly for collector distribution through official export channels — primarily Giesecke+Devrient-adjacent networks and specialist dealers in Europe and China — and were never intended for domestic use.

North Korean commemorative paper issues of this period are notorious for inconsistent quality control, with misaligned serial numbering appearing across multiple denominations in the CS26 series.
