P#129 sits in the long-running Rama IX commemorative series issued by the Bank of Thailand to mark the 84th birthday of Queen Sirikit in 2012, though notes bearing this design continued to be produced through 2016. The Bank of Thailand Note Printing Works has handled domestic production since 1969, giving Thailand full in-house control over its currency manufacture — relatively uncommon in Southeast Asia at the time the facility was established.
King Bhumibol Adulyadej died in October 2016, making late-dated notes from this series among the final issues under his reign's iconography.
