| Obverse description | Central intaglio portrait vignette of Georgios Stavros, founder of the National Bank of Greece, set within a finely engraved circular frame at the centre of the note. Elaborate multicolour guilloche rosettes flank the portrait on either side, each incorporating a dark denomination numeral '500' within an ornate cartouche, with classically styled Corinthian columns at the outer edges. The bank title ΕΘΝΙΚΗ ΤΡΑΠΕΖΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ runs along the upper border, with the denomination ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ ΠΕΝΤΑΚΟΣΙΑΙ inscribed below the portrait vignette above the date and signature panel. |
