Obverse description A woman in traditional dress and head wrap sits at right, engaged in basket weaving, rendered in intaglio against a warm ochre and rose underprint. The left portion carries an elaborate geometric vignette with stylised African motifs alongside a large nautilus shell, while maize and tropical flora fill the centre. Denomination numerals '500' appear at upper left and upper right, with the title 'RÉPUBLIQUE CENTRAFRICAINE' across the top and 'CINQ CENTS FRANCS' along the lower margin.

Reverse description The left portion of the reverse carries a large carved ceremonial mask in detailed intaglio, while the centre vignette portrays students seated at low desks in a classroom scene. To the right, a standing figure works at a laboratory or workshop bench, and a tall bronze anthropomorphic sculpture occupies the far right. The overall design is printed in shades of rose and carmine against a dense, repetitive palm-tree guilloche underprint that covers the entire field.
