Additional information

Ivory Coast has no historical or cultural connection to Chichen Itza whatsoever. The coin exists purely as a numismatic export — Ivory Coast, like several West African CFA franc states, licensed its issuing authority through the 2000s to foreign minting agencies producing collectible pieces for the international market. The actual monetary authority, the BCEAO, had little practical involvement in these issues.
