| Obverse description | The note is set within a large oval guilloche border composed of intricate floral and foliate ornamental engraving, with elaborate calligraphic flourishes filling the left margin. At the top, the issuer's name BANQUE DE FRANCE is inscribed above the creation date, followed by the bearer clause in letterpress, with the denomination cinq cents francs rendered in large intaglio script at centre. Below the denomination, a vignette at the foot of the oval presents two allegorical female figures flanking a central cartouche bearing the anti-counterfeiting warning LA LOI PUNIT DE MORT LE CONTREFACTEUR, while circular legal text medallions appear at upper left and right, and a small portrait roundel is positioned at the top centre. |
