Obverse description The obverse features the Icelandic coat of arms rendered in a stylized, modernist format, divided into four quadrants by a central cross: upper left displays a stylized bird (the eagle), upper right a dragon with ornamental scrollwork, lower left a frontal bull's head, and lower right a robed giant figure holding a staff — the four traditional guardians (landvættir) of Iceland. The circular legend reads '500 FIMM HUNDRUÐ KRÓNUR' along the upper arc and 'ÍSLAND' along the lower arc, all in bold Latin lettering. The design is executed in high relief with mirror-polished fields characteristic of proof-quality coinage.
