Estonia's 1994 500 Krooni was issued just three years after the country restored the kroon as part of its broader break from Soviet monetary infrastructure — the 1992 currency reform had already retired the ruble, and this higher denomination followed as economic stabilization allowed for larger-value notes. De La Rue printed the series in London, a deliberate choice signaling institutional credibility at a moment when Estonian banking was rebuilding from scratch.
For a De La Rue product of this period, the security specification is notably spare — watermark only, with none of the thread or foil features appearing on contemporaneous issues from the same printer.
