| Obverse description | The obverse is executed in shades of mauve, violet, and brown against a pale pink guilloche underprint, with the denomination numeral "500" in large intaglio figures at the upper left and lower right. A central oval vignette carries an intaglio portrait of Samora Moisés Machel, first President of Mozambique, facing three-quarters left, captioned below in small lettering with his name and title.
