Obverse description The Cypriot coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a dove in flight carrying an olive branch above the date 1960, the year of independence. The arms are encircled by laurel sprigs, with the trilingual country name legend running around the upper periphery in Greek, Turkish, and English, and the date of issue 1975 positioned at the base.

Reverse description The reverse design is inspired by an ancient silver coin of Evagoras I, king of Salamis. Hercules is depicted seated in three-quarter view upon a rocky outcrop, over which his Nemean lion skin is draped. He holds a cornucopia (horn of plenty) in his left arm, referencing both heroic iconography and themes of abundance. The denomination numeral 500 appears in the field, rendered in a style evoking archaic Cypriot coinage.
