Western Sahara has no functioning mint and no recognized sovereign government — the territory has been administered by Morocco since 1976 following Spain's withdrawal, while the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic claims sovereignty from exile. Coins attributed to Western Sahara from this period are collector issues produced by private minting companies, with no evidence they ever circulated as legal tender among any population.
