Fantasy notes issued under the "Gorreana" label occupy an odd niche — produced as novelty collector pieces rather than any recognized monetary instrument, they carry no issuing authority, no legal tender status, and no central bank backing of any kind. Gorreana itself is a tea plantation on the Azores, which has nothing to do with British currency or the Crown. The pairing of Elizabeth II's likeness with a fantasy denomination on polymer is legally murky in jurisdictions where unauthorized use of a monarch's portrait on currency-like objects is restricted.
Produced 2019, post-Brexit novelty market demand drove a minor industry in these pieces.
