The Pemerintah Revolusioner Republik Indonesia — the PRRI — declared itself the legitimate government of Indonesia in February 1958, backed by dissident military commanders in Sumatra and Sulawesi who opposed Sukarno's increasingly centralized rule and his accommodation of the PKI. This note is one of the few tangible artifacts of that short-lived parallel state. The rebellion was militarily crushed by mid-1958, with most organized resistance collapsed within months, leaving these notes unredeemed and without any formal demonetization — they simply ceased to matter.
The Celebes attribution is significant: it distinguishes this issue from the concurrent PRRI notes produced under the Sumatra-based command, indicating a degree of administrative separation between the two rebel regions.
