| Additional information |
Issued five years before the Games it commemorates, this coin was part of a broad pre-Olympic licensing program that allowed mints and issuing banks worldwide to produce authorized collector pieces well ahead of the event. Mongolia sent its first Winter Olympic athletes to Salt Lake City in 2002 — Vancouver 2010 would mark only their third Winter Games appearance. The advance issue date reflects commercial release strategy more than any commemorative urgency.
