Obverse description The national emblem of the Lao People's Democratic Republic occupies the central field, depicting the That Luang stupa set against a background of paddy fields and a rising sun over a stylised globe, all flanked by bound sheaves of rice. The emblem is surrounded by a circular legend reading 'LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC' along the upper periphery in Latin script, with the date '2003' inscribed at the bottom of the field below the emblem. The Lao-script legend on the coin records the full official name and national motto of the state.
