Obverse description The central vignette presents a brown pelican as the principal motif, with a land tortoise and a marine iguana rendered in the background underprint. Flowering branches of Tournefortia pubescens, a plant endemic to the Galápagos archipelago, occupy the right-hand panel. A Latin aphorism, Ducunt volentem fata, nolentem trahunt, is inscribed across the note, complemented by bilingual legends in Spanish and English and a date of 7 April 2021.

No such institution as the "Galapagos Central Bank" exists. Ecuador's currency authority is the Banco Central del Ecuador, which dollarized the economy in 2000 and has not issued sucres — new or otherwise — since then. A 5000 Nuevos Sucres note dated 2021 on polymer stock does not correspond to any known legitimate issue. This is either a fantasy note, a novelty souvenir item, or a test piece with no standing as genuine currency.
