Queen Jelena, known in Croatian historiography as "Slavna" (the Glorious), ruled as regent in the late tenth century following the death of her husband Mihajlo Krešimir II — one of the very few women to exercise sovereign power in medieval Croatian history. The historical record is thin: she appears primarily in a single inscription from the island of Solin, dating to around 976, which commemorates her charitable works and her role protecting orphans and widows. That stone is essentially the foundation of her entire biographical record.
The 6 euro denomination places this issue within Croatia's collector series launched after euro adoption in January 2023.
