Additional information

Biafra's original coinage dates to the 1969 issues struck during the secessionist war against Nigeria, which ended in January 1970 with Biafran surrender. This 2017 aluminium piece has no connection to that conflict-era currency — it belongs to a wave of fantasy or propaganda issues produced for the revived Biafran independence movement, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which the Nigerian government designated a terrorist organization in 2017, the same year this piece appeared.
