| Obverse description | Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI, executed in high relief after a model by Percy Metcalfe. The king is depicted in a dignified portrait style consistent with British colonial coinage of the period. The surrounding legend reads KING GEORGE THE SIXTH in Latin script, with the abbreviated title PM completing the inscription. The field is plain, and the portrait is positioned centrally with fine detail in the facial features and neck truncation. |

| Reverse description | Central design by George Kruger Gray features two crossed battle axes, their hafts bound together at the centre, displayed diagonally across the field. The designer's initials K.G. appear at the point of crossing near the axe heads. The date is split across the field to either side of the axes, with the large numeral '6' positioned below the crossing point. The word PENCE appears at the base of the coin, while the legend SOUTHERN RHODESIA arcs around the periphery, divided by the axe design to left and right. |
