| Additional information |
Anjouan — formally the Autonomous Island of Anjouan within the Union of the Comoros — has a fractious modern history, including a unilaterally declared independence in 1997 that lasted until a contested reintegration in 2002. The island has no independent monetary authority and does not issue circulating coinage. This piece, dated by Hijri year 1434, is a privately contracted collector issue with no connection to any Anjouanese fiscal or administrative function.
