Obverse description Central field features the quartered royal arms of Spain within a shield, displaying castles and lions in the traditional Castile-León arrangement, with the Granada pomegranate in the base of the escutcheon. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown. The denomination numeral '8' appears to the right of the shield, with the assayer initial 'S' below it, and an additional mint or assayer mark visible to the left. A partial Latin legend surrounds the periphery, partially visible due to the irregular planchet shape characteristic of early milled coinage from this mint.
