Obverse description The Ecuadorian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield surmounted by a condor with spread wings. The shield displays a radiant sun over Mount Chimborazo and a steamship on the lower quarters, flanked on either side by fasces and Ecuadorian flags. The whole device is supported by laurel and palm branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR is inscribed along the upper periphery, with the mint mark QUITO and assayer initials M.V. at the lower portion, all within a rope-pattern border.
