| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the quartered royal arms of Castile and León, displaying castles and lions in alternating quarters, surmounted by a large crown. The shield is flanked by the pillars of Hercules on either side. A partial circular Latin legend surrounds the armorial device, with the date and assayer initial partially visible along the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan, characteristic of cob coinage. |

A partial Latin legend runs around the periphery of the irregular flan. The cross design follows the standard type employed at the Mexico City mint for colonial gold cob coinage of this period. |
