Obverse description The obverse displays the national arms of Ecuador at center: an oval shield depicting Mount Chimborazo with a steamship on the river below, surmounted by a radiant sun, encircled by a wreath of laurel and palm, and flanked by four national flags on either side. A condor with spread wings perches atop the shield. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR arcs around the upper periphery, while the mint city, assayer initials, and denomination QUITO G.J. 8 Rs. appear along the lower margin, all within a toothed border.
