| Obverse description | Central device features the quartered royal coat of arms of Castile and León, displaying alternating castles and rampant lions in the four quadrants, with a small escutcheon at the base, all surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The assayer initials VJ appear to the left of the shield, and the denomination numeral 8 to the right, each flanked by small rosette stops. The circular Latin legend reads CAROLUS III D G HISPAN ET IND REX, running from lower left to lower right around the periphery of the coin. |

The date 1770 is inscribed in the exergue below the waves, and the circular Latin legend VTRAQUE VNUM runs around the upper periphery of the coin, punctuated by rosette stops. |
