Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Carlos III facing right, rendered in the portrait style characteristic of the bust-type coinage introduced at Spanish colonial mints from 1772 onward. The king's hair is tied with a ribbon at the nape, and the truncation of the bust is elaborately draped with an armored cuirass and mantle. The date 1773 appears in the lower field, flanked by a pellet on each side. The encircling legend CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA, proclaiming Carlos III by the Grace of God, runs along the periphery, with the reeded rim forming a well-defined border.
