| Reverse description | Central device depicts two crowned hemispheric globes resting on waves, surmounted by a single royal crown, flanked on either side by crowned Pillars of Hercules entwined with banners. The mint mark 'So' appears at the base of each pillar, with the date 1755 inscribed in the exergue below. The surrounding legend VTRAQUE VNUM, meaning 'Both as One,' is separated by rosette stops and refers to the union of the Old and New Worlds. The overall composition follows the classic 'Pillar dollar' or 'Columnario' type introduced at Spanish colonial mints in the early eighteenth century. |
