Additional information

Cyprus came under British administration in 1878 as part of a Convention with the Ottoman Empire, but the island's coinage retained a hybrid identity for decades — denominations expressed in piastres, the Ottoman unit, struck in sterling silver to British standards. The 9-piastre value specifically served as the shilling equivalent in the local tariff, a deliberate administrative bridge between Ottoman monetary custom and British colonial accounting.

Edward VII issues from Cyprus are notably short-lived as a series, confined to just 1901 and 1907 before George V coinage superseded them.
