Obverse description Draped bust of King Hataz facing, set within an oval or circular inner border, wearing a crown surmounted by a cross. Two stylized ears of wheat flank the effigy on either side, rising from a winning base from which two stems spring, each terminating in a small cross. The surrounding field bears a Ge'ez legend. The strike is characteristic of late Aksumite hammered bronze coinage, with an irregular flan and somewhat crude execution.
