| Obverse description | Three standing figures in togate dress arranged in a ceremonial scene: the central figure, identified as Emperor Claudius, stands facing left with toga drawn over his head in the manner of a veiled sacrificant, flanked by Agrippa I on his left and Herod of Chalcis on his right, each of whom raises a wreath toward the emperor's head in a gesture of coronation. The composition reflects a dynastic loyalty image common to client-king coinage of the Julio-Claudian period. The surrounding field carries a bilingual honorific legend naming both the Jewish rulers and the Roman emperor. The style is characteristic of provincial bronze coinage of the eastern Mediterranean under Claudius. |
