Obverse description Central field occupied by the Islamic shahada in two lines of Arabic script, arranged within a decorative arch or cartouche with a trilobed upper border characteristic of early Ottoman hammered coinage. The legend is enclosed by a plain inner border and an outer dotted or beaded circle. The flan is irregular in shape, typical of hand-struck medieval silver, with moderate die wear and surface oxidation. The script style is consistent with early Naskh calligraphy as employed on the first Ottoman akçes.
