Ahmed III came to power in 1703 through a Janissary revolt that deposed his brother Mustafa II — the very military corps that placed him on the throne would remain a constant constraint on his reign. By this point the akche had collapsed so thoroughly in real value that it had become almost ceremonial; the larger para and kurush were doing the actual work of Ottoman commerce. These tiny late-period akches were struck in such quantities and such haste that die alignment and flan quality vary dramatically across the type.
