| Obverse description | Laureate and bearded male head facing left, rendered in a bold, somewhat archaizing style characteristic of Numidian royal coinage. The laureate wreath is depicted with prominent leaves, and the beard is rendered with visible striations. The portrait is generally identified as a Numidian king, either Massinissa or Micipsa, and displays strong Hellenistic artistic influence. The neck is visible at the truncation, and the overall relief is high despite the irregular flan. |
