Obverse description Large frontal effigy of Ludwig van Beethoven in high relief, depicting his characteristic intense gaze and wild flowing hair. The name BEETHOVEN is arranged in spaced letters along the upper periphery, with the birth and death years 1770 and 1827 separated by a small cross at the lower border. The engraver's signature A. HARTIG appears in small letters beneath the chin in the lower field.
