Jelšingrad was a major metalworking and machinery combine based in Banja Luka, operating within the Yugoslav self-management system as a SOUR — Složena Organizacija Udruženog Rada, a federated labor organization. Like many large Yugoslav enterprises, it maintained its own rest and recreation facilities for workers, and Tučepi on the Makarska Riviera was a standard destination for such retreats. Meal vouchers issued at these odmarališta functioned as internal scrip, redeemable only within the facility and carrying no value outside it.

The Banja Luka earthquake of 1969 heavily disrupted Jelšingrad's operations, though the combine rebuilt and expanded significantly through the 1970s.
