| Reverse description | A slender amphora occupies the central field, depicted in a stylised form with a pointed base and two handles, characteristic of Chian transport amphorae and reflective of the island's renowned wine trade. To the left of the amphora, a pendant bunch of grapes is rendered in relief, reinforcing the viticultural iconography associated with Chios. To the right, the Greek legend records the name of the magistrate responsible for the issue. The ethnic ΧΙΟΣ appears distributed around the field alongside the magistrate's name ΑΡΓΕΙΟΣ, identifying both the issuing city and the eponymous official. The composition is arranged symmetrically around the central amphora, a standard layout for this Chian bronze series. |
