| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in the restrained Classical style characteristic of Augustan portraiture. The emperor is depicted with short, finely detailed hair swept forward over the brow, a strong jaw, and an idealized yet individualized physiognomy. The truncation of the neck is clean and unadorned. The encircling legend reads AVGVSTVS DIVI F, distributed around the portrait in the field. The die engraving is of high quality, reflecting the refined artistic standards of the Lugdunum mint under Augustus. |
