Boleslaus I earned his epithet not through legend but through the murder of his own brother Wenceslas in 935 — the same Wenceslas later canonized and celebrated in carol. The assassination secured the Bohemian throne and initiated a reign of nearly four decades during which Boleslaus dramatically expanded Přemyslid territory and, critically, began issuing coinage as a direct expression of ducal authority over an increasingly consolidated domain.

Cach 13 is among the earliest attributable Bohemian deniers, placing this piece at the very beginning of organized minting in the region.
