| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a schematic frontal bust of a bishop or ecclesiastical figure, rendered in a crude but expressive early Romanesque style typical of Burgundian episcopal deniers of the period. The figure appears mitred or crowned, with stylized drapery suggested by incised lines. A partial beaded border frames the design, and the abbreviated legend LAVS, referencing Lausanne, is visible in the field. The irregular flan and variable die alignment are consistent with hand-hammered production of the late 10th to early 11th century. |
