| Obverse description | A plain cross divides the central field into four quarters, each containing a single pellet, the whole enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The royal legend +ODDO+REX encircles the design between the beaded circle and the outer rim, rendered in bold, somewhat irregular hammered lettering characteristic of Ottonian coinage. The overall composition follows the standard Carolingian-derived cross-and-legend type widely adopted at imperial mints during the late tenth century. |
