Additional information

Issued jointly in the names of Pope Eugene II's successor Valentine and Emperor Louis the Pious, this denier reflects the brief co-authority arrangement under the Constitutio Romana of 824, by which Louis reasserted Carolingian oversight of papal elections. Valentine reigned for roughly forty days in late 827 before dying — making any coinage bearing his name exceptionally rare by simple arithmetic of production time.
