Obverse description Central field dominated by a stylized tree with broad, leafy canopy rising from a straight trunk, flanked on either side by a rampant lion in low relief. A small cross surmounts the tree at its apex. Mintmarks, varying by emission, appear to the left and right of the cross at the top of the tree. The design is rendered in the crude but vigorous hammered style characteristic of Leonese billon coinage of the late twelfth century, with the entire composition set within a plain circular border.
