Reverse description A prominent Greek cross occupies the central field, its arms extending nearly to the beaded border, dividing the flan into four quadrants. The legend +ANFVS RE (Alfonso Rex, meaning Alfonso King) is disposed around the cross in Latin characters. The relief is bold and characteristic of hammered Romanesque billon coinage of 12th-century Castile and León. The irregular flan edge and beaded border frame are typical of the period.
