Reverse description A plain cross pattee occupies the centre of the field, dividing the reverse into four quadrants in the manner typical of Ibero-medieval billon coinage. The cross is rendered in low relief, with arms extending nearly to the inner border. A circular legend surrounds the cross, reading a variation of REX SANCIVS, identifying the issuing monarch; lettering style and spelling vary considerably across dies. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and uneven strike associated with hand-hammered production of the late 12th to early 13th century.
