Sealand — the former Royal Navy Roughs Tower platform seized by Paddy Roy Bates in 1967 — has issued coins since the 1970s, none of which circulate in any meaningful sense. Trial pieces like this reverse test strike exist primarily as proof-of-concept artifacts produced during die preparation, documenting design approval stages before full strikes were authorized. The "Roy I" designation reflects Bates's self-styled princely title, though he ruled as Prince, not King.
