Additional information

Kyzikos sat on the southern shore of the Propontis controlling one of the most strategically critical straits in the ancient world, and its mint reflects that position — prolific, technically accomplished, and largely uninterrupted even as Pergamene power consolidated across the region after 188 BC. By the mid-second century, the city retained substantial autonomy under Rome's emerging influence, continuing to strike civic silver alongside its famous electrum staters. The drachm series from this period draws on deep Hellenistic minting traditions while the city navigated an increasingly complex political landscape between Pergamon and Rome.

SNG von Aulock 1234 and SNG Berry 950 are standard reference points for this type, though die linkage studies across the Kyzikene silver series remain incomplete.
