Additional information

Azes II remains a contested figure — several numismatists, most notably Nicholas Sims-Williams following his work on the Rabatak inscription, have argued that Azes II never existed as a separate ruler and that coins attributed to him may simply be later issues of Azes I or posthumous strikes by successor mints maintaining a familiar royal name for commercial credibility. The debate has not been resolved.

The "Azes era," beginning around 58 BC, was used as a calendrical reference point across the northwestern subcontinent for centuries after Indo-Scythian power had collapsed entirely.
