Obverse description Rectangular or cartouche-shaped countermark applied to the field of a Timurid or later Central Asian copper fals, bearing a two-line Persian inscription in the field reading 'Adl Tāşkand' in naskh or nasta'liq script. The countermark is boldly struck and dominates the obverse, partially obscuring the underlying host coin's original legends and design. The surrounding field retains traces of the host coin's original hammered fabric, with irregular flan edges characteristic of Central Asian copper coinage of the period. The term 'Adl' signifies either monetary legitimacy ('just' or 'approved currency') or denotes a local sub-denomination, while 'Tāşkand' identifies the city of Tashkent as the issuing authority.
